This is Abby my lab mix - (hence the white on her chest) Graphite, carbon and charcoal pencils. Looking at the scan, I can see that her nose needs a little more work. 8x10 on Canson (I think - had some paper laying around :blushing: ) Constructive comments appreciated!

Thanks,
Traci

AWWWW Traci....it's beautiful! I would like to see you push your values a bit more esp. in the body.....looks to me like some of it needs to be made really dark.....then the lighter areas will stand out more....... but definately an awesome job. What a cuddly puppy!

Thanks for the comments Denise - You are correct about the values, although, the scan doesn't really show the tonal variations like the actual piece does.

Beautiful work !

I would concentrate on darks.

Especially the eyes.

Traci,

You did a wonderful job on this. I see that you were saying the scan doesn't show the tonal values. I downloaded your jpeg and fixed the scan, you can see the fix below. I explained how to do this on another thread, here is the link to that thread: http://scribbletalk.com/showthread.php?t=720&page=3 post number 39.

Often times I see this dullness that happens when scanning or taking a digital photo of artwork. And thought I would share the fix with everyone.

Very nice work, I really like the expression you've gotton on this doggy.

Gemma - Yep, that's more like it! Didn't think about playing around with the histogram. I still need to practice/push values - I'm amazed at the depth you and several others acheive with graphite. This started out as graphite only and then I just got impatient and added the carbon.

Denise/Oozzo - Thanks for looking and your nice comments.

Hi traci
Georgeous portray  Even it is in graphite and such, I think it has a very painterly look - excellent :)

Thanks for your comments Lene - Haven't worked in charcoal since high school (boy THAT's been a while ;) ) so it was fun to play. Found that I do enjoy the carbon pencils and am looking forward to trying some of the colored graphite as well.

Beautiful pup you've got there! And the drawing is nice too. ;) Seriously, very very nice work. I haven't used carbon much...must give it a go again.

Is this on a rosey tinted paper? If so I really like the look.

Thanks Beth! I can only dream of being at your level one day.... sigh... :) Thanks for looking. The paper is sort of a darkish tan/beige. Used the carbon pencils to be able to really establish the darks in my "black" dog. Like it that it seems to be a little more "controllable" than charcoal.

Traci this is beautiful - you really captured the character - the fur looks so soft and sleek.
