This has a strong feeling to it, Katherine. It's just beautiful. How did you like working on this paper? Congratulations on the awards. I see why they would win!

Thanks Cindy and Brenda.
I really like this paper, actually, I learned pastel on this paper. It has a few limitations. You can't erase on it, and you need to use a light hand in your early layers. But it gives a softness to the finished work that is just great for animal
pieces.

Beautiful!! I'm impressed by anyone who can do a good job on this type of paper...I tried it and found it difficult to work with...I like the sandy surfaces much better, like Colorfix or Sennelier La Carte paste card.
Congratulations on the award!!
Hi Katherine
congrats on the first place
Its an excellent drawing
I tried this paper with pastels too, and also found it great for fur if you work very "easy" and "controlled" on it - unable to erase ;)
Congratulations! I love the way you made the mane look like wind was running trrough it...and the background looks like a stormy sky just breaking up. Beautiful portrait!

Love this picture!! I've used velour with pastel pencils and I loved it! Now, I'm going to try cp's on it and see how that works.
Love his soft, pettable muzzle and his flowing mane! Wonderful job!! :D

Thanks, Dana! It really isn't all that hard. I start with a good drawing. I use soft pastels to layer in my values and build up my painting. I use hard pastel sticks and pastel pencils for details. I know that sounds really simplified, but basically, that's it. Leslie Harrison's book, Painting Animals That Touch the Heart, will help you tremendously. Borrow it from your local library.
