Ok this was done about 4 years ago and was posted on another site. It's done on bristol plate finish and the height is about 10" i believe. It's the last time I did a graphite...It's just that I love color so much!

It is beautifully done Arlene :) ,

I used to always work in graphite until yourself and a few others work inspired me to try colour pencils, I would much rather work in colour now :) .

I like the smooth finish you managed to portray.

This is beautiful, Arlene. I still enjoy graphite from time to time. Sometimes I get color blind.....lol Seriously though this is a well rendered piece.

That is a very beautiful rendering, Arlene. I don't know if I could do any nudes...I think I would feel weird working on the....ummm.....fig leaf areas :blushing:

this one was easy to do since it's just a rendering of a statue. But as for doing fig leaf areas, the more you do the less it becomes an issue. seriously.

When I was in high school going into my senior year, I was lucky enough to get into a summer art program at Cornell University. One of the classes we had was figure drawing. Imagine mine and everyone else's surprise when the model got up in the center of the room and then dropped his robe that first session. Of course there were some embarrassed titters that first time, but quickly we all realized it's just a great tool to learn anatomy...(and no we didn't focus on the fig leaf parts! LOL)

If you ever get the chance to take a figure drawing life class, I'd say there is nothing better for training your hand and your eye and you'll see how little an issue it is...um no pun intended  .

There's so much to look at here in the new forum...I hadn't even had a chance to get into the graphite forum. This is really lovely!

I remember my first experience with a male nude model. It was about 13 years ago...I guess I just thought the models were always female. It was uncomfortable for about 10 minutes then I just forgot about it. This summer I took a figure drawing class and two older ladies were on either side of me when the male model came in and disrobed. They were very flustered...both turned to me and said "is HE the model". I felt like being smart and saying "no, just the janitor here to change lightbulbs". But I didn't.

I'm so glad you love color so much...you would have deprived the world of art your beautiful sense of color mixing!

In my experience, the model is a lot less embarrassed than the artists, always. I had several sessions with a young guy who just could not care less - at coffee time he put on only a short jacket, and walked round talking to everyone in that! Arlene - I think you spent more time on other parts of his body than on his face?

Beautiful drawing Arlene! Very well done. I've never done a nude male before ..... er .... drawing, that is. :blushing: I imagine I could if I had to, just never thought it necessary. I wonder how my husband would feel about me drawing a nude male from real life???

Speaking of nude male models -Imagine my surprise when my darling fiance discovered I was artistic and promptly offered to be my male nude model!!! I didn't know whether to  or  HeeHee! :devil2: I dont know whether there would be much sketching going on though.... ;)

Have you anymore graphite sketches we could be in awe of Arlene?

Huge hugs,

Awww... Arlene that is a real shame you dont have anymore because it is beautifully rendered, but then I wouldn't expect anything else from yourself ;) :) .

I think it was all bravado Arlene, although I do have a funny topless photo of Jay doing the strong man pose and trying to suck in his tummy, heehhee! Bless him he would never forgive me if I showed it to you all

After a great chuckle of things said on this thread. I think your David is wonderful. I wouldn't mind a man that tall! I use to be tall, and only had short boys pursue me. I made a great wall flower though.

Great job Arlene! And kudos to Toni for calling her out about the background! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v289/PaintPub/Smileys/devilpurple.jpg

Lucky you! When I was at the Art Institute of Atlanta, I had a similar experience except, being in the Bible Belt, the reactions of the class were a little more extreme. Our professor quickly got us through that though by taking the hand of one of the more embarrassed belles & leading her to the front of the class to examine in great detail the parts in question! I got the hint real fast and included plenty of detail in my drawings!

Wow Arlene this is really great I like how you rendered the 12 pack & the shine on him to show he is a statue. No wonder you do cp masterpieces.
I was wondering if you had a figure forum so I take it we just censor our work and post it in what medium pencil it is done on. My first post will be good ole BF. lol my male figure study I just completed.
