I want to try to enter a black and white juried show, but am having trouble picking a good idea! I think I REALLY like the power of color now!!

I was thinking about using this reference photo. It is not the one I did before, but was taken on the same day. I really never liked how the other one turned out - it was something about the composition. So this perspective is moved over a bit showing more of the sidewalk. I want it to be dark like this, but will also print out a lighter version so I can brighten the church at the end of the street a bit more. So here's a question - what would you pick for a focal point in this pic? The girl in the window? I tried to insert some people on the sidewalk and didn't like it at all.

It will be in all french grey colored pencils. Not sure of what color paper yet - it will have to be white, grey or black though to conform with the show rules.

If you think this is NOT a good reference for a b&w - let me know! Please.

Nicole...I am sure you will figure this out. The thing I was wondering about was the French Greys in a B/W show. Have you checked it out with the organizers? I am entering a B/W show here and the organizers opinion is no other colors than Black and White. You can't use mixed blacks, or mixed greys...the French Greys were too "colorful".

Hmmmm!!! Thanks for the heads up Cindy!! I talked to someone at the gallery and she just said greys were allowed... I'll have to give them a call back and pester some more!!
