Gloria asked this question in the Scribbler's Café:

Not sure where else to ask this but how are ya'll getting the quoted areas into your replies? I've played around but apparently I'm not savy enough to figure this out.

Also is there a brief or thread on how you get your WIPs onto a thread. If you have the item in a digital picture file, what next? I realize this is more than basic for many of you but I need a little help here so that I can participate more. I'll read anything needed, just tell me what.

Beth gave this advice:

Glo, Start with the FAQ at the top of the page in the 'tool bar'. I haven't look through there, but there will probably be instructions on how to do technical things there. Then if you still have questions, just post them in the site discussions sections. Or PM a moderator. I would say me, but I'm still learning some things too.

And this was my response:

Hi, Gloria! (Or is it Glo?)

This is how I put quotes in my threads. I hit reply and in my text area I start typing my message. If you scroll down, you can see the last several (8 or so?) messages. I find the message I want to quote from, highlight the text, copy, move back up to the text area where my reply is started.

Now, look at the top of the text area. See the bold, italic, underline, etc...? The very last box is the quote box. Click on it. A box will pop up that says, "Enter the text to be formatted. In the box I paste the words I want quoted and hit ok. Voila! There is your quoted text. I other thing I do that is an added little feature. Suppose I am quoting several people and I want to make it easy for people to follow who is saying what. I will add their name to the quote code so it will say, Originally Posted by glo". It looks like this:

Go ahead and practice in this thread if you want. You won't hurt anything and it is your thread. I'm getting ready for church but I'll try to check before I leave and after I get back. Have fun!

Brenda maybe I'm stupid but when I hit the quote box above it only says wrap [Quote] tags around selected text. And then the word [Quote] comes up in the text area. I've tried pasting in the[] marks over, before and after and inside but no blue box shows when my reply is posted. Help! :crash:

Well I did this by posting the above and then editing my post with clicking the quote button. But that's not at all like what you said. Where is the pop up that says Enter the text to be formatted? I still only get [Quote] inserted here when I click on the last box.

Well, I guess you need to use the guided mode, for one. quote = brenda Go ahead and practice in this thread if you want. You won't hurt anything and it is your thread.

But still can't do the tagging right.

Grin.... We'll get it, Gloria! You're very, very close.

When the box says wrap, put the words you're quoting in that little box. When you see the quote tags in your message, it needs to look like this (But take out the underscores.)

[_quote=glo_]But still can't do the tagging right.[/quote]

Be sure to take the underscores out of the first tag or it won't work. Try again. You've got the idea.

Looking at your coding I can see there are spaces on either side of the = which is messing you up. And make sure there are both the opening tag [_quote=glo_] AND the closing tag.[/quote]

Try again.

I hope this works. (She pauses and squints before hinting the Save button)

  Yeaaaaaaaaa I did it , I did it. Finally :blushing: Thanks for your coaching. I can't believe I didn't see the spaces first time around. I guess that will teach me not to do something techy when I have a temperature. Thanks again Brenda
