Hello--I have been considering entering a fall art competition at a nearby gallery. I painted this one tonight to get in the mood.. any suggestions are very helpful and appreciated .. pastel on Wallis paper- 20x26 inches... thank you-- Tom
Hi Tom,
I do love the colors but seem to notice two things... one, there is no strong center of interest, and the values all seem to be in around mid-tone. I love when you do paintings of high contrast light to dark... I guess that's what catches my eye first... and of course, something off center right or left in which to place the focus. I'm not a professional, this is just something I noticed. :-)

I always love your work Tom! This one appears to be a bit dark.....my eye is really pulled to the bright spot of color to the right (facing).....
Tom, this looks lovely to me. :)

This is very lovely. There is just one thing I see . . . I would darken the yellow grass in the front a little bit, it just looks too bright to me, too stark I guess, and I would also soften the reflection of the yellow grass right in the front. Since this is just a "get in the mood" piece, you may not have been going for perfection, but I'd say this is quite close!
