Thanks for sharing them.

Tom, I think your pic might be a bit blurry but I'm sharpening it in my mind's eye. I love the stream flowing through the middle of this pasture. I've played in one like that since I was a child. The colors are gorgeous.

And Su! Hello and so glad you posted! :bye1:

Hi Tom

This is wonderful! I have a question, you post a lot of your work here but don't give much of an explanation about technique and how you work. Can you describe how you went about making this painting? Did you do this from a photo or outdoors? How did you choose your colors? I guess it helps to learn a little about the 'man behind the painting' and not to just see paintings all the time (though I love the way they look!)... it would help me to understand how this is done than to see a finished product.

Also, how do you feel about the painting? :-)

I love this picture. I feel very nostalgic when I look at it. Love the rocks in the foreground and how the stream disappears around the bend. As a child I would have immediately run down the streambed and around the corner to see what was there.

Beautiful colors and has a great autumn feel to it!

Thank you Rose --you asked about my technique--I have found. since I have been using Wallis paper my work has improved a great deal.. I work primarily from digi photos I take myself and enhance on the computer. I always print one copy in greyscale to determine the values. Sometime I combine several photos to create the composition.. When I draw out the design I use a charcoal stick. I will then block in the dark areas.. Working from dark to light until the details are added. i use an assortment of soft pastels (unison-schmincke) and medium(mangyo) and hard (nu-pastel)--I often go overboard with colors--it is something I have always struggled with. when choosing colors I tend to lean toward the warm side using alot of reds and rusts probabally because I dislike cold weather so much. When I painted this piece I really wanted to portray a warm October day in the midwest --Tom

I'd say you're right one with that...I grew up in the midwest (NW Indiana), and my birthday is in October...this piece feels and looks like home during my birthday...I can almost smell that fall air and the leaves.....:D Thanks for stirring up great memories....:)

Another beauty Tom. I love the light! Thanks for telling Rose how you do it. One of these days I have to try a landscape again. Your work is always so inspiring. I really love color too, and really like how colorful this piece is. Thanks for sharing with us!

Wonderful colours Tom...I like the mods you made to the foreground.
Your work is inspirational, the more I see, the more I feel the urge to dig out my old pastel box.
Your comments on the use of the warm colours is interesting, I tended towards the cooler colours, but then I live in a cold, wet place!:D but could warm it up with some colours as you do..
