View Full Version : Man's best friend
Hello everyone, :bye1:
I found the link to this place at Ann's site.
I've been catching up on the posts. Great stuff here!!
I'm a part time CPA (kinda busy this time of year) and started doing CP's in early 2004. I do a variety of subjects. I mostly do them for fun..but I have managed to sell a few. :)
Here's one of my recently completed drawings.
I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Awwwhhhh! How sweet!
Thank you Gemma and Cindy.
I forgot to say that this is an 8" x 10". with Prismacolors on Stonehenge.
I got an offer from the owner to buy this from me...but it was such a small amount, I decided to keep it.
People just don't appreciate how long a CP drawing takes to do!!

Dee, glad to see your Dog portrait. Really sweet. Is he a Bassett Hound? VERY sweet eyes especially. I LOVE doing animal eyes. In my Pet Portraits, I always do the eyes first. I bet you did too, hum? Well, I plot out the whole drawing in contour lines, THEN I do the detail in the eyes first. I leave the eyes only when I feel I have at least caught the soul of the perticular pet. Then, I procede to the rest of the animal, coming back and checking and "tweeking" the eyes all along the way until I am finished. :)
Sadly, I found the same thing you did, Dee, that is that people just don't want to pay much for our art. :annoyed: Sometimes I think people in general think it ooozes out our pores, you know? So, I think they think we don't need to earn anything much for it. They don't understand that artists should be paid a fair wage also for their work, just like plumbers, Doctors, Secretaries, etc. ON THE OTHER HAND ... I keep doing my work, though, because for me its really a blessing. Its relaxing, healing, and fullfilling. I am so grateful for all of that. I love "escaping" into my work. Loosing time, emersing myself in the creative process. It'd be nice to get some money for it and I won't deny it pleases me when I do, but, the fact remains, I am so "driven" to create, that I MUST do it, no matter whether I get paid or not. I love it. It fulfills me, satisfies my very soul. So, I definitely wish that for you too.
Clearly you have had success as an artist of other media before CP's. Your work here is excellent! You know ... I specially like CP's because of their Labor Intensity, actually. I also have worked in oils, WC's, Pastels too. Still do these occasionally. But, every time I do, I am reminded of why I love CP's best!
So, keep on loving what you do and sharing it. Its your JOY, isn't it? I can really tell that. Enjoy that and thanks for sharing it with us too. ;o)

Thanks so much for the kind words ladybug. :blushing:
Yes..I did do the eyes first..then the BG...It was actually pure coincidence that the colors in the tile and on the dog were so similar.
I do find art relaxing and enjoy CP because of the sense of accomplishment. I find myself doing larger drawings..because I want to show more. ;)
Occasionally, I get some of my pencils and paper paid for...but, I do love it and that's why I have a folder full of drawings.

Awww.... what a great pooch! The only thing that could make it even more life-like is a puddle of drool underneath his jowls. :p
Those eyes... he needs his head rubbed.
you have really captured the soulful expression these breeds have in their eyes, he is gorgeous!
I dont know why it works but I really like the floor tiles being a similar colour to patches of his fur, normally I would have thought it would have swamped him but maybe it is because he has a lot of black in him -so he stands out from the background. I am not experienced enough to know why just that I really love this pet portrait :) .
Hey! at least you ladies make some money from your work, I haven't sold anything yet or had a request for a commission -I would love for someone to ask me, in fact so much so I would probably do it for less than I should, LOL. ;)
I am very much looking forward to seeing more of your work,
Huge hugs,
ALI
Thanks Brenda and Ali.
Drool, huh... I think that was mopped up before they took the picture. :)
