This is a picture that I drew for my High school yearbook last year. It is actually two drawings. The first, a line drawing for the yearbook cover the previous year and then the fully shaded version. It was impossible to get rid of some of the lines because I had pressed pretty hard on the original drawing.
This was done on a 8.5x11 piece of paper with a mechanical pencil with much, much use of a blending stub. I based the drawing of a painting of a guy on a bucking horse in a rodeo then added the armor of both the horse and rider from a book about medieval culture. I can’t remember the names of the books or the authors lol, but oh well.
It took me much longer than it should through me either obsessing over some detail or procrastinating.
Anyway, here it is. Ignore the date on the bottom. It should be about a year later. And the scanner cut of the very top of the sword.

Thankyou all for the compliments. How could I improve it, or what should I have done differantly? Any imput would be appreciated.

Hi Wonko,

What is it you are trying to achieve with this piece? Realism, impressionism, cartoony? Your illustration is beautiful and loaded with creativity and expression! Nice value work. ;)

Personally, the bends at the horse's joints are too pointy, but maybe that's what you intended. Some Indication of separate fingers in the armor glove holding the sword would be nice and the sword itself is a bit crooked overall.

I'm not up on armor so that curly part extending from the horse's face armor has me confused.

You have a very active imagination and this is a well done piece! I would like to see you continue with this and see what develops.

Well, I was trying to go for for realism, but at the same time using some artistic liberty with the armor (in the drawing, the armor would not be functional)

The horses joints (I suppose you are referring primarily to the legs) were partly because I liked the lines and also because I didn't pay attention.

As for the curly part, It is the reigns. It has a flowy fabric piece wrapped around the leather cord.

I have been wanting to work on it a little bit more. Now I can see where I can improve it. Thank you for your comments.
