Here's another little quick one.
Will probably take a few more hours to finish up.

9 1/2 x 12 1/2. giraults on Sennelier Le Carte.

Let me know what ya think, good and bad!

Thanks!

~lucky

(sorry about the photo, it may be a little dark... cloudy here today)

That is just really, really good, Lucky! Love her hair and the looseness of the work. A quickie, huh. How quick is a quickie?

Hi Brenda, well a quick one for me is about 8 hours…??? I’m guessing some where around that. From the beginning line drawing that always takes me an hour to two to get everything close to where it should be. So maybe it’s not that quick, but it is for me. :D

Here it is finished (I think?)

Thanks for looking!

Really, nice work, Lucky! It looks terrific.

Question, can you apply the light color (her hair) over a dark color (the background)? Or do you leave those areas uncovered until you are ready for the light color?

Thanks Brenda, so glad you like it!

Yes, you can place a light color over a dark. Actually I think with pastels, at least for me, it's easiest to work dark to light. So the light went really easily over the green in the background. The paper might help also.

It''s all good...but I think the hair is exquisite.

Hi
Beautiful portrait  The backlight looks great and the hair is awesome :)
One thing (not knowing the girl you portray :o ) - is her ear placed a bit to low ?

Hi Lucky,

Wow, how did I miss this??? ...Incredible!!! This has such a nice warm glow about it. Great choice on the background also. This one just invites you in and make you want to see what this girl is looking at. If you haven't already done so, I'd encourage you to get these marvelous paintings out in the public eye. You are ready and I'll bet you'll stay busy painting for a long time.
Congratulations on another beauty!!!

Lucky- saw this yesterday but didn't have time to type a response...

another gorgeous work:clap:
you really do need to do a show or an art fair or just go paint in the park...let the public see what incredible art you create and you'll have more customers than you can handle.

your work is really a joy to behold....:D

I do agree w/ lene though...the ear does look a bit low....

I agree with what everyone else is saying. I especially love the hair and the skin! It looks so young and fresh and smooth! I do have one question. The cheek on the far side of her face appears to stick out farther than her cheek on the closest side. Do you actually see it in the ref. pic? Without seeing your reference though, I may be wrong. Looks lovely! I wish I could do some quickies so beautifully! :)

Thanks Cleo, Meisie, Rose, Roxana !

Thank you so much lene and Denise, for noticing about the ear. Yep, it's not right. She needs to have a much smaller ear almost in the same spot but not so low. I'll be fixing that. thanks!

Thanks Denise and Dave. (Dave she's watching a carnival with all kinds of crazy floats.) I'm just gonna work on making art for now and then when I have enough work to show maybe try to get some in galleries, or just try to atleast make a web site to try to sell some. You guys are so nice thanks for always being so kind!

Thanks Beth. Yes you can see that part of her cheek in the reference. Does it look weird with out seeing the reference? Maybe I didn't do something right... please let me know if I should correct something.

Thanks All! Happy Scribbling! :D

Wow, Lucky this is exquisite......a beautiful girl....the sense of light and life is just beautiful.
It reminds me how much I love pastel work when it's done so well, must visit here more often.

Great Adventure is a theme park, like Disney World but on a much smaller scale.

Do you use blending stumps, tortillons, fingers, toilet paper, tissues?? What do you use to get such a smooth look?? I'm going to try that pastel project I think! You inspire me to try!

Ahhh Fabio, your too nice! Thanks! How’s your portrait coming???

Thanks a lot DaveR!

Hi Angela, Oh o.k. hmmm, I’ve thought about doing that kind of work but I think I am too slow. :(
I just use my fingers. I use to use my fingers a lot when oil painting too, maybe I miss being a kid and finger painting? There’s nothing else I’ve tried that gives me the kind of finish I like… But I haven’t tried so many things yet. I hope you will try that lonely ol’ pastel project. I was thinking maybe it was the subject that was too boring for people to want to try? But also I know pencils take priority here. :D Anyway, I hope you will have lots of fun with the pastels. You know where to find me if you need anything at all!!!
