my dad took this picture on their trip to NYC. I have an idea as to how I want to crop it but I could use any advice that you all may have.
I want to crop it to portrait and thought this would be ok. The first time I looked at it cropped I had a little dizzy / disorientated feeling. Maybe it is just me, but I kinda liked the effect. I am posting the original image along with my crop.
I increased the saturation on the cropped images and on one I stretched the image to increase the height but not the width.
Please all feedback is greatfully needed.

What a cool idea, Heather!
I'm no good with comp advice. Don't listen if I give it to you, it's probably wrong! :p ;)
I just wanted to let you know I looked and like the idea. I like the blue of the sign contrasting with the yellow of the other. Only thing I can advise is don't let that yellow over power your focal point. Yellow is an attention-grabbing color.

Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean by the yellow (in the Waldorf sign). I think I will pale it down a bit so it does not compete with the Walk/Don't Walk sign.
I am pretty excited about this odd subject. It is going to be called "Walking to the Waldorf".

Heather what a great idea. I like what you've done except i do see ways it could be better.
the sign on the left is way too close to the edge. Add some breathing room on the left...I wouldn't add back that metal thingy the sign is attached to, just space with the rods holding it extended a bit.
also i'd move the name on the marquee saying waldorf over a bit more so we see a bit more of the name.
lastly i'd move the don't block the grid sign up a bit so you get a nice triangle between the lights, the waldorf sign and the don't block sign...doing that will also help "fill in" the open space at top.
and finally i'd darken the sky more.

Thanks Arlene for the help. I was worried that the pipes holding the sign up were to short and close to the edge but didn't want to put the horizontal pole in. I forget sometimes that artists can change what they see to suit their composition... I also like the idea of putting more of the Waldorf in the picture frame. Thanks for all the help! I am going to paint this first in oils then I am going to do a seperate CP drawing and see which one I like the best. Who knows, maybe I will even do WC and Graphite versions too.
Thanks again, I bow to the Queen and Master.
