Hello, Hello!!

My name is Sandy and I'm recent fan of colored pencil art!

I loved taking art classes in elementary and high school...my favorite medium has always been pencil; the subject matter, portraits! I went on to get a degree in Fine Arts from Miami University (in Ohio). After graduation, I did house renderings for a pre-fab company (using a combo of ink, markers, and acrylics).

Then I got married, moved around a couple of times, and had two kids!! :D
Even though I got very little artwork done during the kids' growing-up period, I did get to see them play a lot of soccer!! :D And, to help out with household expenses, I have spent the last 25 years (and still counting) as a school bus driver for our district!

Now that the boys have both graduated from college (my oldest, with a Law degree  ; my youngest, just graduated from MIT with an engineering degree   ), it's time for me to get back to my art!

My first awareness of colored pencils as a medium came last fall while I was browsing the art section at one of the local bookstores. My jaw dropped to the floor when I discovered Ann Kullberg's books!! Talk about WOW-ED!! Ever since then, I've been buying and reading every colored pencil book that has been marketed!!

I finally treated myself to some Prismas & Stonehedge paper so I can join in on the fun! I have s-o-o-o much to learn and am looking forward to spending time with all of you!!

:bye1: Sandy

Hi Toni, Gemma, Arlene, Alyona, Bill, Ali, and Denise! :bye1:

Denise: I live on the south side of Indianapolis...it's so nice to know there are other midwesterners here!!

Thanks all for the warm greetings! I'm very excited about this forum and hope to post something soon! I'm torn so many different directions that I don't know what to do first! I have started a portrait and am doing some exercises from "Drawing From The Right Side Of The Brain"--just to get back into the swing of things. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying all the posts...so much talent here!!

:) Sandy

Sandy, Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you are making time for yourself now. I know how time consuming kids activities can be. My son plays baseball and football. Thank goodness he doesn't play basketball or it would be yearround. But I will miss it when he graduates in 3 yrs though. Thank goodness my job allows for me to play around with all different art forms. Never boring at my job! Anyway, enjoy the ride! :)
