I appreciate this forum and plan on making good use of it

Hey some of us who aren't necessarily beginners are going to make good use of this forum too!

THANK YOU GEMMA!

Hmmmmm.... A question to muddy things up....

Ok... I've got this great picture I've worked on for two weeks. The apple looks so real you could take a bite out of it, but now I'm thinking the white background might not be right.

What kind of background should I use? :devil2: ;)

LOL! It's alright Arlene has gotten used to ignoring me when I act goofy... hmmm... maybe that's why I haven't heard much from her in the last couple years. ;)

Everyone pretty much expects me (and Lori) to try to outdo each other in the biggest nuts catagory. Hey Lori... I'm winning! :p :D

I think this is a great idea and I know I will have questions that I need answered in here. I just didn't have any at the moment.

And I was laughing at Toni. She just HAD to be the first to post in the new forum!! ;) :p

HA! Top that! :D

Dana, we may tease each other once in a while but we only ever make fun of ourselves. People like Lori and I have so much material to work with too. :devil2: ;)

No one will EVER make fun of you for asking a question! Who knows you may just get a thank you from one of us that had the same question in mind. :D

Nice pic Lori. I think you've found your look. ;) :D Can I borrow the hat someday?

We in the music department at college used to make fun of art majors. They were the only ones on campus wierder than what we were. :D Now, I'm becoming more and more artsy, the nutballness seems to be rubbing off. I kinda like it.

Karen????? No more pink hair???????

Dana, many of us act goofy. I kinda specialize in nerdness. One thing that I always try to remain though is positive. And because I'm so very new to art, I really empathize with artists that are also just spreading their wings. My wife just read this and said " Amen brother".

LOL! I change my hair color with my moods. Miss Clarol is cheap. ;)
Since winter is coming up, I'll probably go red again. Maybe this time I'll do the black tips or black and purple streaks I've been wanting. :D

Oh I still get nightmares about those. ;)

I'm just jealous. If you colored my tips you'd go blind just trying to find one. Soooo, I just use a little wax and shine it right up. I call it the turtle look.

Yes, we had the art and music department wars. The only difference was our girls wore their pony tails in the back of their heads. :D

Thanks. Your probably right. The funny part was, I was understanding y'all awhile back with your computer lingo.

Hey cute pic Karen!!!!! Look how big that model of yours is getting tho! Dang if tyler didn't just turn 13, grrrrrrrrr where does the time go?

Besides.. that pic is just close to portrait fodder... we could plaster that all over ST...hehehe

Yup new hair color demands a new picci.. c'mon share the next time miss clairol comes to visit :D

(hehe I gave up long ago)

I seem to find everyone here on ST quite normal, what gives? :D :D lol

Soooo, I just use a little wax and shine it right up. I call it the turtle look. Hehehehehe hey Greg, my older brother used to tease me about my grey hair, and the last time I told him "I might be grey, but at least I don't have to shampoo with mop&glo..." Heheehe has kept him quiet for YEARS! ;)

Naw, we're not goofy. I much prefer the term free spirited. But in my young tender years, yeah I thought artists were a pretty strange lot. But since I'm one of them now ( Karen told me so ) I like the free spirited term much better. :D

I saw this coffee cup that says " Who needs hair with a body like mine? " Such a great outlook!! I bought one :)

LOL! Alright... well my husband keeps wanting me to go with some silly natural looking color (what is he thinking) but as soon as I can sneak out and get my new doo I'll post ya something. Don't worry... I'll probably be making a goofy face too. :D

Want to hear something unbelievable... Qeston turns 12 this December... That picture is a couple years old, although my hair is that color again now.
Ever since he was 7 I've been telling him he could wear his hair anyway he wants and pick out his own clothes (within reason).
Well guess what the little whelp did... he decided he wanted his hair short. :crybaby: I smiled proudly and told him it looked great when he got it done, but I was crying inside. Three days later he said he didn't think he liked short hair because he couldn't feel it on his neck and (I got tickled at this) he didn't want to be like everyone else. ;)

We'll see what he decides to do next year, but it looks like playing with your hair must be a hereditary thing. :D

Exactly right Greg! I saw how buff you're getting in the diet thread. You don't need no stinkin' hair. I keep having to convince my husband that it's ok... when men get older they're supposed to go bald. It does't look right if they don't. :D

Keep being goofy... uhh I mean artistic... ok I mean both... :D

Well let's see... got your pencil... check. Paper is also a good thing to have. ;)

Take a look through the Index of Helpful Threads (http://scribbletalk.com/showthread.php?p=12#post12). The threads listed under beginners advice should give you a good idea of what kind of materials you need.
Then check out the Drawing Projects (http://scribbletalk.com/showthread.php?t=1166) . These will get you aquainted with using colors and are terrific for teaching the skills you will use every time you draw. Do them in order though.

And don't forget to post your work and ask lots of questions. :D

Only that's the hammer for the members...this one is for me!:judge:

tdobbs,

I'd definitely start with the color theory 101 project. i'd seriously recommend though that before you do them, you start with one or two graphite drawings first to understand values. What you learn from graphite will be invaluable for colored pencil.

I agree with Arlene here, go to the library and start with the values and color theory and then move on to the projects.
That is what I am doing.
I hadn't picked up a pencil in over 20+ years until a month or so ago.
Post what you are working on as well, everyone here is extremely helpful and knowledgable, you can learn SO much from them!

Looking forward to learning right along with you! :)
