I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, if not, please re-direct! :)

I've tried posting a few of my WIP. I've noticed that my scans do not come out crisp and clear like the others I've seen.

My lighter colors do not show up on the scan, and the work I've done up to a point looks "sketchy" for lack of a better word.

I'm not sure if it is because of the paper, the scanner, or I need to edit them before sending to the forum.

Any one else have this problem or have any imput?

Thank you!

Dana,

When I scan my pieces, I scan at 300dpi. Then I save this scan as a .tiff file. This gives me a "raw" image should I need it for anything at a later date.

Then I adjust anything that might need adjusted, resize for uploading to ST (which is 600dpixels 600pixels @ 72dpi) Then I know it's the maximum size and clairity for ST viewing.

This image I save again as a .jpg, suitable for the web and St.

hope this helps

Yes, I thought scanning was easy....but they come out too bright white and my lighter layers/colors seem to get lost.
Thanks Toni for the suggestions, I will try those!

What about your actual scanner settings? Is there somewhere to adjust the contrast etc?

Here's a tip that Arlene has mentioned before and I now use: place a sheet of clear mylar down on your scanner bed and place your piece on top of it. It helps your scanner pick up the lighter values better.

Post number 39, this will explain how to get a good crisp picture after you have scanned.

Um, me too. ( raising hand ) That's a really frustrating thing I've been dealing with too. Mine doesn't pick up light values, and it tends to blur the images. Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll give them a shot.

Adjusting my scanner did not help. I'm going to try the acetate next.
(oh darn, another reason to go to DickBlick!) :p
