Just a general question as it relates to all color mediums...

I know the color wheel by now but wanted to know how to tell the complementary color of a darkened version of the local color... say, for instance, I wanted to use Indigo as my blue, what would the complementary color be for the darkened version of a blue-violet? Would it be the darker version of the yellow-orange? I am finding it hard to match color for color in pencils on the complementary scale due the large amounts of colors to choose from. Help! :-)

The reason I'm asking the question is because I'm thinking of entering the theme show that Ann Kullberg advertised in her October magazine. If we were to just do complementary colors does it have to be just one color blue and one color orange (example)?? Thanks!

I'm thinking about it... just need to get my knowledge down on the complements before I can start... thinking of a fall theme, with maybe a barn and some pumpkins... but only have until Nov. 10th, so that's pushing it for me... Thanks for the encouragement, Dana!

no you can use any value of the complement for the fall show. anything from peaches to deep orange if you're using blues. hey a good example would be my drawing asian influences which is the drawing on the far left on my banner.

Thanks Arlene,... I had a feeling that would be okay but wasn't sure! :-) I appreciate your reply.
