A friend of mine asked me to do a turkey, I started on it this weekend. I'm off to Kentucky for business tommorrow and thought I'd post my progress. I'll update when I get back at the end of the week.

The background is not finished yet. So far I've used Tuscan red, violet, indigo blue, sand, french grey 50%, olive green and dark green.

he's looking good enough to eat. ;) two things...first don't show images on the web at 300 dpi...it's an invitation for others to rip you off and print them theirselves.
best to use an image no larger then 72 dpi...and then scale it to 500 pixels wide x 600 pixels high max...you can change it in just about every image editing program.
second is the turkey looks a bit like it's being caged on the right...i'm glad to see you have more paper, as i'd add a bit to the right, and maybe crop a hair on the left.

It's my first attempt at a grisaille, not sure I did everything right. I basically tried to establish values on the turkey with indigo blue first. I wish I'd used a different initial color on the tail feathers, they should be a little less blue than the body, it took quite a while to get them where they are (and I'm not totally satisfied)
You and Arlene are great minds that think alike ! I have plenty of paper left so I'll work on the composition as you suggested. Actually I need to better plan in advance for the finished size, I've been ending up with non-typical demensions. Makes it a challenge to matt and frame.
Thanks for the input!!!
This is a wild turkey. They eat much the same as deer, browse, crops etc. as well as bugs, YUM YUM.

I think it's about done, see anything I missed? Prismas on 140# watercolor paper, 7 x 9. Finally got some Stonehenge to try on the next one!

you did a great job with this bill. i love the softness of it as well as the way the feathers were done.

I still love this one. Hey have you started formatting your layouts better since this turkey?

Great turkey! Love your background too!
Well, I was loving the mulit-coloured background and how the diferent colours melted into each other BUT I like the effect you have achieved with the final result and it sets those tail feathers off a treat :) .
What did your friend think?
I never thought I would say this about a Turkey but your Turkey looks magnificent and has an air of regality about it :) .
Huge hugs,
ALI
