Hello I started this pastel painting today its about 2/3 finished.. i took photos as I proceeded. With this surface I am using primarily unison pastels

photo 1- I have prepared a sheet of 3/16 x 22x28 inch gator \board-rose underpainted with pastel ground applied--I use the Golden brand pastel ground . I used an old stiff brush for the initial layer of rose paint to allow the brush strokes to show.

photo 2 I placed it next to another painting I did last week to use as a color reference.

photo 3 I have sketched out the landscape design with a brown piece of nupastel--I have identified the values early in this stage

photo 4 and photo 5-- I have begun to apply the pastel colors. I went ahead and began to work the water adding reflections and current. The rough surface of the board lends itself to layering as long as you do not apply too much pressure-- so I keep a light touch in this early stage.
The foregound tree on the left will be a sharp contrast I am not sureit works but I will leave it for now.. I will likely finish the painting this week end. Tom
