A drawing done for my sister, who just finished filming a movie with him. It was done in just a mechanical pencil, as I was at work, and wasn't supposed to be drawing :blushing: Anyways, here he is. Not the best work I've ever done, but I think its ok.

I think it's ok too. This is a composite you had said and you did a great job doing so. you have a good range of values and have captured a wonderful expression here.

Thankyou. I have a couple of questions.

1. Bill asked to see the references, and I would be happy to do so, but am I allowed to since they are copyrighted?
2. I heard from a friend that once copyrighted images are reproduced in a drawing, the copyright no longer holds. Do you have any idea if this is true?

Sorry for being such a problem. My intentions are good :D

I think as long as you dont intend to try and sell your version of the photograph then you are OK but I dont think the copyright ever changes -it belongs to the photographer unless you get their permission.

I am no expert though :)

I love the softness of his hair in this and you can tell it is Keanu, not bad at all :)

Huge hugs,

Yes they are copyrighted and you may not copy them, but since we're asking for you to teach us how you combined photos, it's ok. It goes under the fair use rule.

Your friend is 100% wrong. Under her theory then, I could do a drawing, and she could come along and do a drawing of my drawing. If it's an image, someone holds the copyright...whether it is a photo, a drawing, or a painting, etc.

Once you or anyone produces an image, it is copyrighted and only the copyright holder has the right to decide how that image may be used.

Hope that clears things up a bit for you. :D

also, thank you for asking. I'd rather you ask if unsure...it's the way we learn. :)

Okie dokie. Once I get home from work I will go and get the images and put them up. :D I am obsessed with the whole wireless internet thing so I can't get myself to walk out to my library to use the main computer.

Lumo he looks great. More so than "oh it's keanu", more like "that's definately keanu", because of the energy evoked. Well done.

I like the technique you have, an interesting use of graphite. Reminds me of an underpainting the oil painters start with.

What support are you using?

Ok, now that I have dragged myself out to the library to use the main computer, I can upload the images and give you some background on how I did it.

I had both of these reference photos open on the computer, and I had an idea of what I wanted. My sister has always said Keanu was really nice to her, and that he seemed like a great guy. So I wanted to capture that, but also capture the mysteriousness of him, and the "Woh, dude", Bill and Ted, aspect. So what I did was rotate the blue background photo and rotated the face. However, there were still some holes where I couldn't get the eyes at the right angle, and his nose wasn't quite captured, giving it a cartoony look. So I took some of the features from the Constantine photo, and the hairstyle, and added it here and there. All together it probably took me four or five hours. I don't have any wip's to show, due to my scanner being veerrry slow, so the best I can do is explain. If you have any questions about technique, feel free to ask :D

Oh! It is Cream, medium tooth, heavy weight paper. Allows for some smudging, but not much. Thanks by the way. I'm working on clearing up my drawings.

Eh, she's finished the movie she was working with him on, and I'm sure he's left Texas by now. I'd like to show it to him though

Lumos this is really great how you took 2 different poses of him and were able to do such a great likeness of him.
