It doesn't look much at the moment, but it is just a quick sketch of an image that caught my eye while my wife and I were watching CSI Miami that I recorded the other night. In fact, this is a commercial that was on in between CSI Miami. It was one of those stylish perfume ads. I sat up and paused the frame and sketched this quickly before watching part 2 of the show. There's some bits I'm not happy with, but hey that's why putty rubbers were invented! I'm using a Conte pencil on Tiz Fab.

If you like, I will keep you posted with my progress. I have the day off work today so I will spend much of the day on it.

EDIT: Oops, I've just noticed that one of my hairs had landed on the paper before I took the shot :blushing:

Heaven Scent (http://static.flickr.com/35/71763198_96ad84eee9_o.jpg)

Okay, here's the next stage after some hours of fiddling with it. To start I decided to call it Heaven Scent. After all, I did draw the picture from a freeze frame on a perfume commercial!

As you can see I've made plenty of changes and tings dem starting to look okay! Might knock it on the head for today while the goings good, though. When things are going well I always get more nervous in case I bugger the whole thing up!

Some advice, please. Would you spray fix this before doing some highlights or carry right on through without touching the can at all?

Thanks for all comments.

Uhhhhhhhhhh...

Am I the only one who's not seeing an image or a link or anything? Do your images show for you?

TJ

Nevermind.. I see the link.. that green doesn't really stand out much on my monitor

Looks like it's coming along nicely. I like the concept. What a great way to get in some sketching.. lol as long as your wife doesn't mind the freezing the screen. lol

I love the lines on her.

I'm curious about the negative space between these two though.... is that her jawline or just the space between them? Also his cheek seems to follow her ear line exactly, and that line flows down thru his chin to his neck..

how far do you plan on going with this?

Toni, thanks a lot for your comments. That negative space is her jawline. Her jawline is partially covering his chin. Hmmm, might need to fiddle about a bit more with that, it is a bit bare, isn't it. Maybe I'll shade it in slightly.
I'm planning to put in some highlights on the drawing with a white pastel chalk (sparingly!).

I might then print out a copy on some cheap paper and practice drawing hands....you see he actually has his arm behind her and he is grasping a bunch of her hair at the back but I'm a bit nervous of messing it all up so if I practice drawing it first then when I'm confident I can make it look good on the original I'll go for it.

I think this'll do for this picture, I don't want to over-work it. Tony, thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it.

this is very nice. You know my fav is the very first sketch. I love the spontenancy of the drawing. It shows your talent straight off. ;)

You prefer the first one?? That's a bit of a blow, Debee. This is an extremely rough sketch that was scribbled quickly in a fairly dark room (we were halfway watching an episode of CSI: miami when I spotted this couple on an advertisement and froze the frame). If you prefer the first one then the corrected finished result that I worked intricately on the next day during daylight was all for nothing. I strive to make my work as realistic as possible.

Maybe you're not alone. Judging by the lack of response after all those hits, my picture hasn't made much of an impression on anyone. I asked some advice about whether I should spray fix the drawing and put some highlights in. That went unanswered.

I've tried to "get in with the crowd" and commented on a few drawings here like a nice snowy landscape, the labrador dog and some of the portraits on the first page of the pastels area of this site, so is it wrong of me to expect some comments in return?

I graciously appologise if I've offended anyone on this site, but I have to say that I won't be posting anymore work here. I don't really see the point.

My very best wishes and good luck with everything you all want to achieve.

MSL..... I'm terribly sorry to hear this. One thing to keep in mind though, this is the holiday season and things are really slow here on ST right now. I myself haven't posted at all because I'm working a lot of overtime at work and trying to get the holiday stuff done.

Also.... when someone gives you a complement on your work, it would be nice to at least say thank you.

I'm sorry to hear this too.

We are having a slow spell, like always around the holiday seasons. I, myself am right in the middle of moving, finally getting relocated for good. I don't have time for much except lurking, and maybe a post or two.

Possibly uploading here, and not a link would increase your replies too. I rarely will take a link myself.

Hope you stick around.

MSL...

First of all, bear in mind that when you post links to works instead of posting the image in the thread itself, people tend to skip it. For some, the link may not work. For others, it may load slow. And some just don't want to click on outside links. I'd strongly recommend that you upload your images if you want comments.

Second, it's the holiday season, as has previously been mentioned. Most of the regulars are busy and not commenting much.

Third, consider that non-colored pencil works tend to get fewer comments. Even though this site is for all pencil work, a large portion of the membership are colored pencil artists, so they tend to frequent the cp forum more. Your first art post was a digital creation and there are very few artists here who do digital. This post is a Conte piece that's posted in the Pastel forum. Typically, conte is in the "other drawing mediums" forum. :) My point is just that there are reasons why people may not comment. They may not feel experienced enough in the medium that you are using.

Last, you've been here less than 1 month and have made 24 posts...6 of which were comments on other people's work. I'm not sure what you mean by "get in with the crowd," but I'm guessing that the crowd that you are referring to have hundreds of posts and have known each other for years...before this site was even created. Some of us go back for 4 years or more. Yes, they may comment on each other's work more, but they do not intentionally ignore new people. In fact, I think that most here make a big effort to try and welcome the new people.

I'm sorry if you feel that you've been neglected, however treating people the way you treated Debee when she was merely complimenting you and going off on the general posting population will do nothing to encourage people to comment on your work.

Same here...been very busy...and then following a link...well, I just don't usually do that.... Can you post the images here? (the link produced an empty page for me :( )

MSL, I'm being told the photo is currently unavailable? Perhaps you are working on it? Just wanted to double check and make sure the last link you posted was a good one.

Best,
Christine
