View Full Version : Problems posting Images

I am having all sorts of problems posting new pics. I always size my pics to 600x600px (or close to) or 72dbi which is the ST limit, right? I tried to post my newwest drawing at the same size and it says it is like WAY too large! Is it MY image reducing program or some kind of glitch on ST? Very frustrating! And get this--sometimes when I right click on my posted images, I get conflicting data, i.e., one time the "properties" will tell me it is one size and another time I can click on it and it gives me completely different dimensions!!

Have I ever mentioned that I basically HATE computers???

try lowering your compression just a bit. if for ex you're using PS and saved it with a compression of 12 you'll wind up with a large file...for the net, saving at a compression of between 5-7 should be good enough and will then not be too large.

I replied in your thread but I'll repeat it here.

The pic's width is 353 and the height is 450. That's all good. It's the size that's not good. When I looked it said it was 120.76 KB and I ::think:: it needs to be around 100 kb. Double check the resolution on your program. Is it still set at 72 dpi?

Hi
if you work in photoshop:
first set the pixeldimensions via Image Size (like 600 pixels on the largest side)

then choose: File - Save for Web
I have attached a file how it looks when you choose 2-up in upper-menu of that window
When you are here you can see below settings (right of screen, where I put a red circle) that you can choose different categories of jpeg: Low-medium-high-maximum. Altering the choise look in my next red circle how much the file will be in kb (and how long it will take to show at a given speed of connection)
Perhaps your file will be to large when choosing maximum, the try high. In the window you can see how little / much if differs from the original.
When you attach the file on ScribbleTalk, you can see that it is exactly the same size as you saw in that Save for Web - window

Compressioon? Uhhhhhhhhhhh............uhhhhhhhhhhh....I don't know what that means. :blushing:

It's weird, I've never had any problem with posting images. I have this program called, "Infraview," and I can take an image and type in the size I want in pixels and wa la, I have it and the DBI always says 72. This is first time I have had any problems.

I don't understand how width and height are different from the "size" being too large. :blushing: Dang, I hate feeling this stupid! I don't see anywhere on my image sizing program where you can change the compression. :(

OK, I'm going to have to interprupt Richard from playing the Blues to come in here and tell me what I am doing wrong. Sigh.

Rrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccc ccccccccccchhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrdddddddddddd d!!!

Gosh! Thanks for all this work! I feel so bad because I don't have Photoshop. I have a cheapie little program. Thanks for doing all this work!!

Well, duh, Lori! There's size and then there's... ummm... size! Ok. No wonder you're confused.

Let's look at it this way: the 353 x 450 is like saying how tall someone is and the 120.76 KB is like saying how much they weigh.

In order for a pic to be posted on ST, both "sizes" have to be right. Both the width and height of a pic and the "weight". No more than 600 px in either direction, at 72 dpi and that should give you a size of around 100 KB. For some reason that pic you tried to upload, "weighed" too much and I don't know why.

Can you double check the resolution?

Hi
Brenda, what you mention concerning the file being too large; when you save a file for web it will automaticly be reduced to 72 dpi.
What you should look at is what I explain here (in PhotoShop that is), that you can save your jpeg in different categories: low - medium etc.
This is also what Arlene mentions when you use; Save As ... jpeg (not the Save for Web that I use). Doing Save as you can choose a compression explained in numbers and it will also call it: low-high etc.
The Save for Web will show you the picture to see if it differs from the original picture and the Save As will not show you an image ;)

Oh great! Even my images are putting on holiday pounds! :annoyed:

It is so weird! The photo was taken by the same camera and reduced by the same program I have used for 2 years. This is the first time EVER that my image has been "too fat!" I can't find any kind of compression file size of anything on my Infraview prpgram. :( I still need to have Richard look at it. Maybe he can figure it out. Or maybe one of the animals--any mamal is smarter than me when it comes to computer things!

You're right, Lene but Lori doesn't have Photoshop so it won't help her. I'm sure it will help someone else, but not Lori.

Lori, why are you always different?! ha ha

uuuppppssss :blushing:
sorry about that, I'll see if I can find an answer concerning the Irfanview program - I guess that's the one you mean, Lori ?

okay, this is what I found out on IrfanView so far (some of it you'll already know):

You have your file, in Irfanview choose Image - Resize/Resample Image
in the pop-up window choose 600 pixels on the largest side and set dpi at 72 (see my attachment)

Then go to File - save as
save it as a jpeg and choose a quality in the ruler that appears in that window (from lowest to best)

THEN you have to go to PATHFINDER to see the kb-size of your image....

if it is more than 122 kb it is too large for Scribbletalk and you'll get a message like this, when you try to upload to ST:

"File Too Large. Limit for this filetype is 122.1 KB. Your file is 557.3 KB."

then go back and choose a lower quality as mentioned above

Hope this is a help ;)

Pathfinder? Where/what is Pathfinder? (sorry I am stupid....)

when you right-click your START-button (lower left on your screen)
you can go to Pathfinder (I am guessing that's what you call it in US :blushing: ). It is the directory of folders containing what you have on your computer...
I suppose you store your files in a folder, open it, and view the files as "details" then you'll see the informations like size, type of files etc....

Please, just ask if this isn't clear to you ;)

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!! I found where you can resample an image in my Corel program. It allows you to change the "weight" as well as the overall size of the pic! Hooray!!

Thanks to y'all for taking the time to hold my hand and explain things! I am
MOST grateful!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------
OK, I did figure out how to do it, but I am also totally frustrated that I can NOT get a sharp image in a decent size to post anymore. When I lower the compression to fit ST's "weight" requirement, it is totally blurry. To make it sharp, I have to reduce the pixel size down to like 300!

Did ST recently change it's "weight" requirement?
