View Full Version : User's conference

Here's a thought: has anybody considered a ST user's conference? It would be an opportunity for everybody to get together, meet face to face, exchange ideas, and party a little bit at the same time.
And, on top of it, a good excuse to go on a vacation someplace fun. I've noticed that a lot of ST users are from Texas; I've never spent a vacation in Texas, and it could be fun, even if it's just an extended weekend. I hear Austin is a cute town, good restaurants, etc.
Of course, somebody would need to organize it: hotel, list of attendees, people offering workshops, shows, etc. Then a nice glass of wine by the pool together :-)!!!
Any takers?

Actually, Arthur.... Katydid, Greg and I are in the process of doing that very thing though we are focusing on people in the Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas area.
It would be a ton of fun for us all to get together for a weekend conference, workshop, whatever!
grouphug :crybaby: you lucky you  (think I'll buy a number in the National Lottery this week ) :dance3:
Have a great time :bye1:

Oh, Lene... grouphug It doesn't help at all to say we'd be thinking about you, does it. I'm sorry. It is so much fun getting together with other CP artists.

I especially like the "whatever" part of it! Let us know when you have more information on this. I do have some vacation planned, but if time allows, I would love to meet the gang!

Colorado! Now... that's a thought for a great vacation place too. Beautiful mountains, beautiful people. I'm for that!

Arkansas? Don't forget me! :p :)
actually arthur have you thought about just attending the cpsa convention? Not only are cpsa folks there, but tons of cp stuff and a gallery, information and fun! The rooms are cpsa priced too. You don't have to be a member to attend.
then every year, it changes locations!
just a thought.

well .... Brenda, but thanks anyway ;)

Actually, any and all are welcome to this. It is March 20 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. PM me, Katydid or Greg if you are interested and I will send you details. We just wanted to greet and meet our fellow CPers.
Gosh, Arthur... if you want to come from California, we'd love to have you. Seriously, anyone is welcome to come. The more the merrier.
We're going to bring our pencils and whatever project we're working on at the moment. We're just going to spend the day talking and working!

Brenda: Thanks for the invitation. Unfortunately, March 20th won't work for me. I was thinking more towards summer or end of the year.
Toni: I sent in my application to CPSA national in October and never heard from them again. In fact, I had even forgotten about them. So I looked at my records and, it turns out, they never cashed my check. Most probably, they never got my application - one of those rare occasions when a letter gets lost in the mail. I'm in contact with them again to get my membership going ASAP.
I also looked at the CPSA web site, and it turns out they are meeting this year in Albuquerque, with a side trip to Santa Fe. That's a place I've always wanted to visit, so I'm going to plan for it. Thanks for the tip.
But I don't think we should give up on the idea of a user's conference for ST users. People here are just too nice and I would love to meet them.

Hmmm yeah, check on your application. Like I said, you don't have to be a member to attend or enter.
The CPSA is always held in the late July-early Aug time frame. I wouldn't think a ST get together would be good that time of year for those of us who plan on going to the cpsa conventions. I know I have $$ issues to deal with, and could never do two trips close together. What about something on the opposite side of the calendar?

Toni, I was thinking maybe late October. Far enough away from the CPSA meeting, and before everybody starts worrying about the holidays.
Now the questions is whether anybody will take it upon him/herself to organize this :D

I got my membership directory, but I guess I didn't get my membership card. Don't they usually come together?

hmmm. 4.5 hour drive for me. *ponders*
I don't guess I will be able to make it. My husband is going to have knee replacement surgery that day...I guess he might get upset if I left to go to Oklahoma. ;) :p

Hi Arthur:) Don't give up on getting your membership from the CPSA. They have had a few problems changing officers and things got a little behind. I had sent mine in at the 1st of November and only got my card in the mail last week! Hang in there!!Jean.:bye1: :bye1:

Hi Author,
I sent in a check to renew my membership in late October and they just cashed the check. I think they are very slow because it's all volunteer work and they wait until dues are due so that they make one deposit. My experience is when I send a check to them, it's always taken several months. Perhaps if you look into you might see that your check was cashed this past week?
Best,
Christine

Hi all,
First of all, sorry for the late reply. Been really busy...
I contacted CPSA. They do have my check and are working hard to process everything. I guess they just have too much of a good thing: a lot of people renewing or starting their membership.
Sounds like Albuquerque will be the place to meet everybody. Besides, I've been trying to talk my wife into going to Santa Fe, so I guess this is it :-)! And now that I noticed in the program that Cecile Baird will be doing one of the workshops, I'm even more excited about going... I'm reading her book now. Talk about coincidence.
From another thread, sounds like a lot of people will be in Albuquerque, so we can just party there. If all works out, I'll be there.

Ahhh, so there's still hope that I will actually get my membership card from CPSA sometime this year? I thought maybe my check got hijacked on the way. Been waiting for them to cash it.
Wish I could make it for March 20th, but hubby and I are going to Texas for a week in April/May (not sure the exact date) and we can't afford to make two trips so close together. :crybaby: Doesn't anybody have any meetings on the east coast?

I think there is a CPSA chapter in Atlanta. I think Cathy (CaHenry) and some others from here are in that group. I don't know how close that is to you, but it is on the East Coast.
