I entered this piece in "A Closer Look at Colorado" exhibit for the Lakewood Arts Council at South Union Gallery in Lakewood, Colorado. I won a Merit Award this afternoon.
It's 7" x 10" on Black LetraMax board. And I owe Arlene a box of Godiva Truffles! And I am thrilled about it... :D

Congratulations, Cindy!!!! That is wonderful news. I loved this in black and white but in color... it is just amazing. You have such a talent!
And good for you honoring Arlene's advice like that!

Thank you Christine! And Jeanne! And Arlene :D And Brenda! I liked it in b/w too, but I just felt like there was more I wanted to express and color would be the best way.
I had another good thing come from the show. I entered 4 pieces...3 colored pencil, and 1 thread painting. All were accepted, and the thread painting sold before it even got juried. One of the women who was helping with delivery bought it. So I don't know which was more exciting. :D I love days like this ;)
Wonderful Cindy! congratulations :D

Congrats again! What's thread painting? Not sure I've heard of this.
Christine
A thread painting is decorative thread over the top of a fabric collage. I do free motion quilting with different rayon threads to give texture to the value structure created with the fabric. Here's a pic of it...this one is a mini, the image is only 5" x 7". It's from a photo of Estes Park that I took on a quilting field trip a couple of years ago. It's more of an impression of the image rather than any photorealism. The needle and thread do the painting rather than a brush.

That shot doesn't really show the stitches...here is a better shot.

Wow, very nice and different! So, did you print the image on fabric and then incorporate the needlework? I ask because you said this image was taken while on a quilting fieldtrip.
Thanks for the info,
Christine

No, I use a photo for my resource and then cut different pieces of fabric to match the value structure of the photo. That's kind of like an underpainting. Then I add texture with the thread.
Hope that's a little clearer :)

Well done Cindy  .
The colours are very beautiful... very 'classic' to me. And you know I like all your peaches :)
And the stitchwork picture is amazing. It almost looks like an adaptation of the Aurora Borealis!
CindyH

Thanks Dorell! The "aurora borealis" wasn't in the original photograph, but that's a piece of hand-dyed fabric that I just loved and thought it looked good in the sky.

Cindy, Just a thought but your quilted piece reminded me of a work show in Colored Pencil Explorations by Janie Gildow, on page 127 is a pic and discription of a work by Linda Henize CPSA of colored pencil and fabric on 80 lb. drawing paper.
I just did a quick search for her name on google and didn't come up with much but you should look for her work. As a serious quilter myself I was very taken with her piece in the book and inspired to try to incorporate the two mediums. My couple of forays into the process were less than stellar but with your talent it might be up your alley.

Thank you Jeri! And Meisie! And Jeanne and Jean!! :bye1: I really appreciate the comments.
I have that book, Jeanne, but it's at the studio where I teach. So I'll have to check that out tomorrow night. I have read it several times, but that piece must not have registered in the old brain cells. Looking forward to checking it out....again ;)
