This is a drawing I did a little while back, but I never got a chance to get any C & C on it.

It's a 5" x 7" on Stonehenge..with Prismacolors.

I would appreciate your comments on it...It's still 'fixable'.

Thanks :)

Hi Dee! This is looking good. I love the strawberry reflection in the bowl/pitcher/thing (can't quite figure what type of container..) The strawberries look wet and juicy. I would deepen the shadows on the strawberry where it is facing the base of the container & where it touches the table,as well as the shadow it is casting on the cloth, I would also deepen the values of the ones inside the container. If your light source is coming from the front, these would get darker toward the back. The handle is looking great. The one spot that bothers me is the lower inside. To me it should be darker where the handle attaches to the container and lighten as it goes out from there. The shadow the container is casting on the wall would also be darker. The container has a good "metal" feel to it especially the base. The top right curve of it seems strange to me but maybe it's made that way and I am just not visualizing it correctly. The table cloth could use some more layers and some more range in vaues. It does not convey, imho, the same realism that the container and the fruit do, at the same time the tablecloth reflection would also have a wider range in values.

I hope this helps and that I didn't offend you. Your piece has some great things going on  ...I'm sure others more expert will chime in and are welcome to correct me if I'm wrong :bangin: ;)

Thanks Denise.

The original is from a RIL. I think the container is what I've heard called a 'gravy boat'. That accounts for the shape. It's not a round bowl.

Hiya! Dee :bye1: ,

You have captured the gravy boat beautifully it looks very metallic, I agree with Denise with regards the strawberries needing more values -meaning shadows and possibly a few more highlights to really make them sing!

The tablecloth does need more layers but you have the dips and curves in it just right.

The laminate wood background needs more layers too. I think you have made an excellent job of this still life I just think it needs a few more layers and some more detailing on the strawberries and it will really sing!

I would try using a complementary colour on those strawberries it will really help the darker areas have richness and make them more dynamic :)

Huge hugs,

ALI

Thanks Ali, for your suggestions.

It took me a little while to get back to this.

I've added more layers everywhere and added complements to the shadows.

The wall is actually burnt ochre and shows up much too red here. Otherwise, it's pretty close.

C & C please. :)

love the reflection...and with the reference photo...now i can see that that gravy boat had some hinky shapes to the handle too!....

i can see the strawberries have more highlights, i was going to suggest a bit more too...love the blue cloth!...i do think your cast shadow could use a bit of strenghtening still though....ya might try some thing in the ultramarine color...or indigo...but use a very light hand in adding it.....judging as you go.....they are pretty deep colors..but i really thing it might need it a bit more powerful.. :D

Thank you for your suggestions.

I added indigo and sienna brown to the BG 'aka wall' and a bit of orange to the strawberries. :)

Here it is finished (I think)

Better?

Thanks Brenda....Yes I did. :D

The first version of this was kind of rushed because I was doing it for a 'deadline'.

I'm glad you like it better. ;)

It looks scrumptious Dee :D ,

Can you see the improvement in deepening your shadows and brightening your highlights? I can -it really has presence now and really works well.

Beautiful work!
