I bought these roses today and photographed them every which way I could think of. This is my favorite of the day. I thinking it would look good on the dark brown colorfix.

I welcome any comments or critique of ways it could be better. Thanks!

Don't you just love red and white together? :)
I'm not good at giving composition tips, but the thing that I notice is that the 3 flowers are all at the same level and the white flower on the right is mostly hidden. I'm not sure what you should do to change it, except maybe to take one of the white roses out and lay it on the cloth? maybe? just to try it anyway. :)

Thanks for your comments Beth :) I "slept" on this one and decided it just didn't have enough going on to keep my interest or to make a good painting. Plus my husband, bless his heart, thought it was really boring. I depend on him alot to be my critique-er.

So I spent this afternoon taking more pics and trying to use a black teapot that I bought from the Goodwill. I used natural light for this one rather than the can lights.

Here is my favorite from today's photography lesson  This one has some some nice values and contrast and some more interesting shapes.

Again...if anyone has any comments, I would appreciate hearing them. :bye1:

Oh, Cindy! I love this second set up!!!! I look forward to seeing this evolve. Love the lines in the bg and the raised texture to the cloth under the flowers and teapot :)

Thanks Christine....after about 300 pics I finally get one that could work. I got the thumbs up from hubby on this one too :)

I like the second one much better! Love the red and white roses and the black pot. Cool reflections.

Will you be adding the photographer's reflection that is in the pot? lol!

Thanks Beth and Brenda! I will probably leave out my reflection ;) I didn't realize what a pain a highly reflective surface like that would be to photograph. I have soooo much to learn!

Cindy, I don't know anything about composition exactly, but I know what I like. I really like the second one - I love it in black and white! I love the window reflection in the background. Is there a way you could maybe move everything back so the window reflection falls on the props? Just a thought - I love that "lit up by the sun" look.

Hi Angela, thanks for your feedback! I'm glad you like the second one, as I'm working on the drawing right now. It's too late to do the setup again as you suggested, but I will keep that in mind for my next setup. I really like the natural light coming through the paned windows.

I only got about 10 minutes worth of the sunlight the day that I was photographing and then the clouds rolled in!

Like this Cindy and thanks to Arlene and her composition hints I actually see some triangles going on in this.

Cindy, Another vote for the second comp!

I have to admit that after looking at the first comp when you first posted it I had the same reaction as your hubby. :blushing: This second one is a winner though! Love the composition, colors and play of light and shadow. Hope you will be including the reflection of the window on the black pot. Watching with interest.....

Thanks for your comments Debee'. I assure you that the triangles you see are probably due to luck. I think I was just going for something that I thought looked good. ;)

Hi Jeanne..yes, I will be including the reflection of the window.

I got a little sidetracked. I started the drawing but have been working on getting a website going, and some other things. But I will post it in the cp forum when I have something to show.

Cindy I'm glad you kept going. and as far as i'm concerned, 300 pics isn't that many. ;)

I would like to see just a hair more up top and a hair more on the left and maybe just a hair less on the bottom, but that's nit picking. this should be very interesting...i love the shadows.

Welcome back Arlene, have enjoyed reading your cruise log. My big fear is seasickness....I felt bad for Gil.

I'm beginning to realize that 300 is just a start :D And it depends on your patience, ability to focus your thoughts.... and light that's available. It's not something you do in an hour. I feel like taking my own photos has really helped me grow alot...and I do enjoy it...some days ;)

I'm still working on the drawing for this, so I do have the ability to adjust the edges. I got sidetracked on a few other things and it's just sitting on my drawing table.
