I really don't know what to title this - Ok, my sister need some help, she thinks that this is the pic she wants to use for her entry to this yrs show...

Yes, it's the same subject I was working on but, hey...

She thinks she wants to set him in deep fog - and she thinks she wants some of the background cows showing through a little - AND...

up till now she has used CP (turns out she wasn't using normal pencils like I'd thought); however, she only used greyscale. She now thinks she wants to put limited color in this one, possibly like the second photo.

I told her I'd ask this one time for her since she is only 17 and Momma doesn't have internet.

She wants to know any oppinions of any kind - comp. / color / ect.

hey brandy

opinion... this photo is very badly distorted.

question.. will she fix it or leave the distortion as part of the comp?

opinion... limited palette would be great for this subject

question.. what size, what paper, what kind of pencils?

opinion... dust might work good too..

no other question right now LOL!

Lol!

Well lets see here...

Distortion - I thought so too, but I think that's what draws her to it. She says when she sees it, it's like he's saying "Helllooooo...". Something about trying to capture the subject upclose and personal or something.

Size - She usually works on about a 16 x 12 scale... I MADE her get something besides sketch paper you can see through. Hopefully I can get her to leave the Crayola pencils behind and use some Prismas also....

Dust - I agree, since she's never actually done dust or mist or anything that blurs background - It might end up any of them, lol.

Thanks - I'll pass this on to her, she says why couldn't I have found this place when she was trying to find a pic instead of when she finally settles on won

haha better late than never.....

well if its the distortion shes after, then i'd make sure everyone can tell it was done on purpose!

meaning.. go a bit beyond the photo distortion.. overstate it!

hmmm she might give him a little hip/hindquarter on one side.. just those two feet stickin out in the back.. odd, even if he does have a big ol head

I agree - I'd have never picked this one. But I can't wait to see what she does with it...different strokes huh? I'll tell her you sugg. that she over exagerate it a bit more (love the idea).

I honestly believe this is the second uglies steer I've ever seen, lol - but very attractive in a stange way. He is the tallest I've ever seen - case in point, his horns are in the six foot range and he dwarfs them. Look at the height compared to his horn length! He's actually almost twice the average height of the other animals out there. I'm just not sure if this subject and pose go together - once again each to their own.

I'm trying to see if maybe she should look into some other pics though - It is really ticking her off since she finally convinced herself to do this one. Maybe one of these she looked at - if she doesn't I'll prob try a couple of them in the future...

Lightened the colors since she doesn't think she can go full color yet.
